We have attracted the attention of Indian officials and businessmen to Latvia

Economy Minister Artis Kampars (New Era) believes that during his working visit to India, he was successful in attracting the attention of Indian officials and businessmen to Latvia, the business portal "Nozare.lv" was informed by a spokesman for the minister.

"Indian business, which has huge financial resources at its disposal, is seeking opportunities to invest in Europe. During our visit both Indian officials and businessman told us that Latvia, as a bridge between East and West, is a great place for investment. I can say that our voices were heard," said Kampars.

During Kampars' visit, representatives of the Bollywood film industry, who at present use Switzerland as an exotic backdrop for the Indian audience, expressed interest in Latvia; the minister also spoke about cooperation in other areas, for example Latvian producers could provide the Indian market with hydro-level measuring devices and anti-counterfeiting technology.

As reported, during his visit Kampars met with Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Anand Sharma and Indian Foreign Ministry Minister of State Preneet Kaur.

At the meeting with Sharma, the two ministers agreed to set up an intergovernmental commission between the two countries, the first meeting of which could take place in Latvia this summer. This summer could also see a visit to Riga by a delegation of Indian businessmen, in order to look at the possibilities of cooperation in specific sectors. The Indian Commerce and Industry minister likewise expressed an interest in visiting Latvia personally in the foreseeable future.

During his visit, Kampars opened a seminar in Mumbai on business opportunities in Latvia, as well as visiting two Latvia-India business forums which took place in New Delhi.

Kampars was accompanied on his visit to India by Development Agency Director Andris Ozols, as well as ten Latvian business representatives from areas such as transport and logistics, metalworks, wood processing, tourism, medicine, and textile production.
