"Poetry Days" - in Riga

Here are just a few of the events scheduled:

September 13 at 6 p.m., an event, titled "Atvērt nevar aizvērt" (Open, Cannot Close"), featuring authors of books released in the period since last year’s "Poetry Days". Latvian poets will also be featured at two evening readings in the "Taka" cafe in Riga.

September 11-12 on the Esplanade, as every year – a book exchange fair.

Poets from foreign lands will also grace this year’s festival. September 9 at the University of Latvia’s Humanities Department, enjoy Mari Konno, Yoko Danno, Kyong Mi Park from Japan and American writer James Hopkins. September 11 in the kim? space in the Spikeri warehouses, all interested are welcome to take part in a workshop led by the above poets.

September 16 at 6 p.m. at Spikeri "Meta kafe", a workshop as part of the international "Poetry Unlimited" traveling festival featuring poets from Poland, Slovenia, Finland, Wales, Iceland and Latvia. On September 17 at 9 p.m. in the same venue, welcome the poetry/music group "The Berserkers" (Scotland, Iceland, Lithuania).

September 17, participants (from Latvia, Estonia and Finland) in the annual poetry trip will make a stop at Riga’s Satori Bookstore.

September 10 at 7 p.m. at New Riga Theater, in tandem with the text-group "Orbīta", performing will be Ukrainian and Russian poets Serhiy Zhadan and Fedor Svarovskiy.

The finale for "Poetry Days 2010" will be held September 18 in "Hamlets" club – the traditional evening of classical poetry.

Admission to all events – free of charge.
