Prime Minister and Foreign Minister offer condolences over devastating storm in Western Europe

Prime Minister Valdis Dombrovskis and Foreign Minister Maris Riekstins, on behalf of the Government of Latvia, have sent a letter of condolence to President and Prime Minister of France, François Fillon, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bernard Kouchner, over the violent windstorm that struck Western Europe, claiming the lives of more than 50 people.

In the letters to their French colleagues, Mr Dombrovskis and Mr Riekstins offered deepest sympathies to those who have lost their family members and friends due to the storm, and wished fast recovery to the injured.

Given the fact that the number of victims of the storm Xynthia is increasing, France has declared a state of emergency in the country.
