Science in the Search for the Solution of Practical Issues

Intellect is the most important export capital of this country. Latvian scientists work on the European and world level successfully; they solve the problems capable of meeting the challenges of many economic industries. The annual international conference Reliability and Statistics (RelStat) takes place in the Transport and Telecommunication Institute (TSI) in October 19 – 22; it considers the numerous questions, starting with 3-D simulation of the environment and finishing with the practical tasks of risk minimizing in the process of dangerous freights transportation.

This year the researchers and experts meet each other in the framework of the annual international conference to discuss and study the important issues. The special attention is to be paid to the problems of safety and reliability of the transportation systems, the role of the transportation corridors in the Baltic Sea region, the samples of simulation of the transport and logistics systems, etc.

The great number of sections will function in the framework of the conference, and the participants will have possibility to share their opinions and groundwork, hear the colleagues’ constructive criticism and find the like-minded people.

The topical workshop in the frames of the European Union programme COST Action TU0801 will take place within the conference. The special attention will be paid to the issues of 3-D simulation of the transportation systems. Today simulation is one of the most actively developing directions, allowing implementation of the visual solutions for constructing the complex transportation junctions and transport hubs. Under the condition when the cost of any minor error can be calculated in the terms of millions, the simulation systems permit to foreseen and predict the peculiarities and risks of significant projects implementation, to find out the bottlenecks of the projects and avoid the losses.

The workshop on the C.A.S.H. project will also take part within this conference. It will be held in the cooperation with the road police and it will consider the issues of providing the safe freight transportation in the Baltic Sea region. The primary attention will be paid to the heavy duty and off-gauge transportations, and transportation of dangerous substances and objects. To achieve the set goals it is supposed to work out the general requirements for the transportations in the Baltic Sea region, to have the cooperative trainings and workshops for increasing the level of cooperation between the parts, involved in the transportation process, checking the technical safety level and safety level of participating IT-systems.

The researchers and experts from Latvia, Austria, Denmark, Romania, France, Croatia, Poland, Lithuania and other countries will present their findings.
