Putin: Too early to talk about 2012 presidential race

During a meeting with participants of the discussion club in Sochi, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin announced that neither he, nor President Dmitry Medvedev were planning to do anything that would violate Russian legislation when it comes to the 2012 presidential election.

According to the prime minister, both he and Medvedev will act on the basis of the actual situation in the country, the Russian government’s press office reported.

Putin reiterated that it was still too early to talk about the future campaign, since a great deal would depend on what the situation in the country is and what the public’s mood is closer to the election date.

"It is still too early to discuss this. We must do our jobs – each one of us has things to do. I think our work can be characterized as generally efficient, and that is very important," he stressed.

At the same time, Putin indicated that Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected as President of the U.S. for four consecutive terms, since this did not violate the U.S. Constitution.

In early August at a press briefing in Sochi, President Dmitry Medvedev announced that he and Putin had not yet decided on who would run in the 2012 presidential election. He also noted that "a third person" could very well become the next Russian president.
