Riga is ready for City days

The traditional Riga Festival will this year be held in the capital from 20-22 August, featuring a wide range of events and concerts centering on the city's 11th November Embankment.

The festival will hold a mascot parade and a "cartoon" rally, and the "O!Karte" night run, open to anyone irregardless of age, nationality, physical condition or occupation. Music and literature devotees will be delighted by two-day events at the Vērmanes Garden Park, which will host performances by Riga traditional dance groups, the 1st Folk Festival "In the midst of Riga", Book Street, traditional dance and puppy theatre workshops for children, demonstrations of traditional crafts and a fair.

A special event entitled "100 Years Ago on Alberta Street" on Alberta Street and at the Art Nouveau centre will recreate the atmosphere of the early 20th century, as well as displaying the Latvian love for the theatre, with a musical atmosphere, vintage photo studio and old-fashioned cafes on hand. The event "Art Days at Spīķeri" will host a more up-to-date atmosphere, presenting an exciting educational art festival for young people – creative workshops, a virtual excursion into the history of art, as well as demonstrations, photo workshops and performances.

Riga will also hold other events, for example, belfry music at Town Hall Square, a concert by legendary Latvian rock group "Pērkons" at Dzegužkalns Park, with emotional art and music performances also taking place in Bolderāja, Imanta and Iļģuciems. Visitors will be able to enjoy the Big Food Street and a fireworks competition in the night sky at the climax of the festival.
