Jurmala: the fight for the power will continue

The sitting of Jurmala City Council which was to decide on the dismissal of Mayor Romualds Razuks (Civic Union) has been postponed until September 9.

According to Razuks, Jurmala Court is to examine the possibility of applying additional security measures to Raimonds Munkevics (Jurmala Our Home) in order to protect witnesses in the ongoing bribery case against the former mayor.

"We cannot be sure that Munkevics has a deputy's right to vote, and so I have announced the postponement of the sitting until September 9 at 4 p.m.," said Razuks.

Razuks indicated that notice of the court's intention to consider addition security measures against Munkevics had been provided to him by Iveta Blaua (New Era), who is a witness in the case.

"These are particularly unusual circumstances; therefore, I decided to postpone the sitting," said the mayor.

Munkevics himself revealed that he had not been informed of the matter. In his opinion, this is a tactic by Razuks to avoid the sitting.

As reported, Razuks was appointed 100 days ago on May 20, when Munkevics was dismissed after being arrested on charges of bribery. The former mayor was later released on bail.

As LETA also reported, eight of the 15 deputies of Jurmala City Council have submitted a motion to remove Mayor Romualds Razuks from office.
